People have a hunger, but do not know how to satisfy it. We try new experiences attempting to fulfill interests and desires that are ultimately beyond our own understanding. This is part of the reason we can never be satisfied in our flesh.
There is an innate desire of freedom from the bondage of sin that we all posses; this is the underlining truth of what we see on the surface, but many are sadly blind to this truth. Instead, they think happiness, joy and fullness of life come from worldly gain and increase. The only way to accomplish this false sense of fulfillment is to feed the flesh. But to feed the flesh is to starve the spirit, to the demise of our being.
The true internal desire is to be with our Father. Why? Because the real desire shared by all people is to be loved. Who can love you better than He? Yahweh is love. Therefore, we essentially desire the Father.
The bondage of sinful, habitual addictions continues to control the mind of the flesh. However the innate desire for freedom lingers because of the nature by which we were created - not in the image of Satan, the father of this world, but the image of Yahweh, the Father of love and Giver of life. We have been taught that as we live in sin that we are sinning against God. While this is not a false understanding, the common perception is that we are personally offending Yahweh. Yet, in His perfection, He is not affected by our sin - we are. A deeper understanding is that, while we may be abiding in sin, contrary to the Spirit of Yahweh, it is our separation from Him that he hates the most. Oh, how He wants to be with us and for us to be with Him, but He cannot abide where there is sin. Yahweh hates the sin, not the person wallowing in it. In His eyes, a person bound by sin is as a small child walking into oncoming traffic, oblivious to the dangers that lie ahead. He knows the severity of the outcome, but He is helpless in that He can only protect us from attacks while we abide in Him; He cannot protect us from our own choices or will unless we repent and surrender all unto Him through the blood of Christ Yahshua.
The desire for freedom is synonymous with the desire to be with Father. When our eyes are opened and we realize that He loves us enough to disregard our sin, and we repent and return to Him, then we know His love and are free from a bondage that we were not aware existed in us. Then we are free to worship as an expression of the excitement we feel inside; we have no other choice but to be with Him because we have tasted the goodness and our craving for that goodness is greater than the lust of our flesh. The hunger for His goodness becomes so overwhelming that it cannot be contained; it will overflow, spilling into others and consuming them as well. Those who abide in the vine will taste the fruit thereof and see that it is irresistible.
We then become desperate for more.
